Sona Nanotech is a nanotechnology life sciences company that is developing Targeted Hyperthermia Therapy™ (“THT”) a photothermal cancer therapy that uses therapeutic heat to treat solid cancer tumors without cutting, burning or poison. The heat is generated by Sona’s uniquely biocompatible gold nanorods when injected intratumorally and exposed to infrared light. Therapeutic heat (42-48°C) shrinks tumors, inactivates cancer stem cells and stimulates the immune system allowing immunotherapies to better respond, as shown in preclinical studies with multiple cancer types. THT promises to be safe, effective, minimally invasive, competitive in cost, and a valuable adjunct to drug therapy and other cancer treatments.

Products and services

Sona’s THT therapy is based on the company’s patent for the manufacture of gold nanorods without the use of cetyltrimethylammonium (“CTAB”), eliminating the toxicity risks associated with the use of other gold nanorod technologies in medical applications. Sona produces its own lateral flow assay’s and is currently developing rapid tests for concussion and Bovine Tuberculosis. It is expected that Sona’s gold nanotechnologies may be adapted for use in applications, as a safe and effective delivery system for multiple medical treatments, subject to the approval of various regulatory boards, including Health Canada and the FDA.
